This is a build I have been using to take on Tequatl and tank in dungeons as well, works nicely in a WvW group too, high hp for a guard, solid armor and condition removal. Focuses on power over crits do deal damage, very effective against world bosses like Tequatl.

(Mango pie is a good substitution food to have instead of Dragonfish Candy too)

A lot of people are afraid of heights. Not me, I'm afraid of widths.

Thanks Tylazil. I use his Commander build and tweak it somewhat for WvW. His PvP build is pretty sweet as well with meditation healing.

This is my basic Guard Build. I have maxed out Fotm with it. I have pretty much completed all the content in the game with it. It is tried and true, one of the most dependable builds for guards in the game, and it is fun for wvw too. Ever knocked a thief off a cliff with a Hammer? yeah. like that.

Shouts: they buff, they cleanse, they make your party happy.

Staff one is a non-targeted cone attack that hits multiple enemies (the loot stick). Staff 2 is a ranged aoe heal. Staff 3 is a Swiftness Symbol. Hammer 2 is a blast finisher.

Lines people, LINES!

One thing to note. Many guards do not know how to properly use Line of Warding and Ring of Warding. As it is one of the most under appreciated, yet vital, skills you need to master, please experiment with it... alot. Everytime a mob runs into it and falls down, that is that an attack that never happens. Everytime a boss walks across it, that is a stack of Defiance gone. Drop it in a choke in WvW and it will rip off the enemies' aegis or make them have to dodge. etc.

Statistically, along a long enough timeline, your chances of survival are reduced to zero. You can struggle against, but not forever defy, the underpinning forces of the universe.

Pretty much a varient on my build above, this one uses mace and shield as opposed to the Hammer. It provides less damage reduction, cleansing, and area denial, while providing much more regeneration.

Less artful in my humble opinion, it is a good build for starting guards doing a lot of 5 man content.

Your Virtue of Resolve is now a group Heal Over Time (HoT), it is more powerful, as well as a mega Cleanse when you activate it. Use it wisely.

Your symbols now regen the group. Use them often.

As with any class, in any game, there is both theory craft and an aesthetic element to mastering it. The key is to use my builds not as a cookie cutter, but as a bookmark. you should take it and make it your own. Change things up. I do not want anyone to be my clone, nor am i suggesting it.

These builds I posted fill both Tank and Support roles. Used properly, you can solo many things in the world and, when it comes to parties, you will always be the last man standing.
